What do credit control recruiters want?

The accounts receivable team are responsible for ensuring all client invoices are up to date and paid on time. It follows that they are also required to chase up any incidents where this is not the case.

A lot of skills are necessary to successfully carry out this role. First and foremost, great organisation and strong numeracy are required to keep track of several accounts at any one time. Any mistakes in this area can prove very costly for the business, so it will work in your favour if you can show that you possess these attributes.

You will also be working as part of a team, so teamwork and interpersonal skills will be desirable for employers. This will also be useful when dealing with clients, particularly those who are behind on their payments. You will need to deal with such situations patiently and sensitively, even in cases where a client becomes rude or aggressive.

Some recruiters also require some form of accredited qualification, such as a certificate from the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM). If you don’t currently have one, but are working towards it, this is worth mentioning in your application so that employers can see what your intentions are.
